The two old European rivals had a strong contention in the first 45min of the game which ended in a goalless draw.

It was all change after the restart, though, as Heiko Herrlich's side upped the tempo, quickly finding their reward when Sebastian Rudy rifled home from outside the area on 50 minutes. The Englishmen were still recovering from that blow when Richard Sukuta-Pasu doubled the Germans' advantage moments later.

England coach John Peacock made a double change in an effort to get back into the game, and the move paid dividends when Rhys Murphy cut the deficit on 65 minutes.

With the chances beginning to flow at both ends, it the Germans who made theirs count, Dennis Dowidat and Toni Kroos producing fine finishes in the final quarter of an hour to see them home and dry.
