The Accra West district 3rd division middle League was played yesterday at the Dansoman Liberty Carl Raindorf Park. Four teams qualify to play in this tournament and all the matches were to be played in a league form on the same day. The teams that qualified to participate in the middle league were Nad Gunners FC, Blessing FC, Busia Youth FC and Maapbayer FC.


It started with Nad Gunners playing Blessing FC of which Nad Gunners won by 3-1 in the first match.


In the second game Maapbayer FC took on Busia Youth FC and the game ended in 1-1 draw. It was a very hot match since one of the two teams had to win because Nad Gunners who first game won by 3-1 and a draw or a defeat would not be good enough for both sides. Maapbayer FC started well with their attackers coming very close and putting a lot of pressure on their opposing team and after about 25mins of play Maapbayer FC striker George Arthur had the open from a lovely cross of which he connected with his head. It was a very beautiful goal and George Arthur was given a round of applause from the spectators. Just after the goal Busia Youth FC try to get an equalizer but all efforts was rendered futile until it was half-time.


After the break Busia Youth FC striker Eric Fordjour was the biggest thread to the Maapbayer FC defence. He used his speed and pace very well and I was particularly impressed with him. He then came close and hit the cross bar on two occasions. Later in the game after his tireless running, he was fortunate to capitalize on a defensive blunder of which he took advantage and scored a nice goal.


In the third game of the day Blessing FC held on Busia Youth FC to a goalless draw. In the early stages of the game Blessing FC exerted so much pressure and came very close to scoring. After 15min of one sided football Blessing FC defender brought down one of Busia FC attackers in the box which gave Blessing FC a penalty. Unfortunately they miss this clear opportunity to score the first goal. In the second half Blessing FC consistently pushed forward but at the end of 90mins the game ended in a goalless draw.


The fourth game was between Nad Gunners vs. Maapbayer FC. This game was like the final of the tournament since Maapbayer FC needed a win because a defeat would hand the Nad Gunners the league championship and automatically qualification to the 2nd division. From the inception of the match there was a lot of tension among the two rivals. The match came to an obstruct end in the 25th minute in the second half after Maapbayer FC scored an off-side goal. The center referee from the threshold of the match had made certain decision of which the technical bench of Nad Gunners FC was particularly not happy with. The referee seemd to be in favour of Maapbayer FC and Nad Gunners players as well as the technical staff walked off the field.
