MATCH REPORT


Nigeria thrashed Eritrea 8-0 in a one-sided encounter in the Kegue Stadium in their opening group match.


It was only three minutes into the 1st half that Osani Gani was brought down in the penalty box and Haruna Lukman the captain of the side opened the scoring with an excellent penalty.


The Nigerians tormented the Eritreans with their deadly attacking trio of Lukman, Ibrahim Rabiu, Rafael Ademola and Chrisanthus Macaulley firing on all cylinders.


Rabiu scored the Nigerians' second in the 10th minute while Macaulley increased the tally to 3 goals in the 26th minute.


Before the break, both Rabiu and Macaulley scored their second goals of the match respectively to give Nigeria a comfortable 5-0 lead at half-time.


Twenty minutes after recess, Macaulley completed his hat-trick and Eritrea held on for another thirteen minutes before Rafael Ademola added his name to the score sheet.


In the dying moments, Akinsola Kabiru completed the goal harvest with with an excellent finish. It was really an humiliating defeat suffered by the Eritrea.
